Soft Edge

Soft Edge lets you sculpt your drawings. Think ZBrush or Blender's sculpt brushes, but for 2D.

Traditional drawing apps (Photoshop, Krita, all of them) record how your stroke looks. You pick a brush, you draw, and the mark on the canvas is, for all intents and purposes, frozen. You can massage it with warp or other tools, but you're distorting the brushwork and it's not very precise.

Soft Edge keeps the stroke itself in full. Not an image of how it looks. The stroke, live.

As you draw, it records your drawing. Many times each second the app stores the position of your pen, plus all the other controls such as pressure, tilt, or velocity. The marks on the canvas are painted from those records.

• You made a beautiful stroke but didn't like the brush? Swap it, without losing your stroke.
• You nailed the line placement but the line didn't turn out exactly the way you wanted?
• Perhaps the end taper wasn't good, or maybe one part didn't come out with the thickness you'd like? Change it. Sculpt it. Shape it.

Soft Edge even lets you paint the color of the stroke after it's been drawn. You can draw a stroke and blend colors however you'd like. Or you can change a stroke as if it had been drawn faster, or slower.

Soft Edge paints, too, with raster layers that behave like the apps you know. The painting engine will keep growing, but Soft Edge isn't trying to replace your favorite painting app. It's meant to work beside it.

Alpha Preview

These are early versions of the app. Windows and Linux only for now. You can check the roadmap here and the latest version changelog here.

• Things will break. The document format can still change between versions. Where we can, we'll provide a script to update older files, but there are no guarantees.
• Unsigned. Windows will show a popup (click More info, then Run anyway) the first time you run it.
• Free during Preview. Pay what you want if you'd like to support development.---

Founder's Edition - $19

Alpha Preview is free only until deemed stable enough. After that, it needs a license: $25 at the beginning of the Early Access Period and $49 at release.

The Founder's Edition is the cheapest a license will ever be. It gets you:

• A perpetual license. You own the app, forever. 
• A Founder ID, and your name on the Founders list in the app, if you want.

The Founder ID will get you discounts and access to private channels if Soft Edge succeeds as a project to the point it justifies releasing further content and keeping a community such as a Discord server.
